We’re thrilled to announce our sponsorship of the West Dem Steel Orchestra, a vibrant group that embodies the spirit and culture of our local community. Founded in 2014 by Mr. Joel Doris and Lionel Bishop, the orchestra began as a small group of passionate students from West Demerara Secondary, fueled by their love for the rich musical traditions of steelpan.

Over time, the orchestra expanded beyond the school’s walls, welcoming young talents from Patentia Secondary and Leonora Secondary, becoming a symbol of unity and creativity across the West Demerara region. Their dedication has earned them top placements in the Junior Panorama Competition, consistently ranking between 2nd and 4th place. Through dedication and talent, the band has performed at major events, including parties, hotels, parades, and the National Panorama Competition.

In response to the challenges of the pandemic, the West Dem Steel Orchestra launched a youth engagement program, offering young people a creative outlet while fostering community spirit. Now, they’re setting their sights on the prestigious Junior Panorama Champion title this year, on February 19, 2025, at the Marriott Beach and we couldn’t be more excited to support them on this journey!
